The first rental visit of a ski holiday can involve several decisions for each traveller. Sizes need checking, equipment needs allocating and the group may not be ready to leave together. Treat that visit as its own appointment when organising the day’s transport. A clear sequence allows the rental provider to complete its work without the family feeling that an unplanned waiting car is setting the pace.

Ask what the rental appointment includes

Confirm the shop, address and appointment arrangement directly with the supplier. Find out whether the party needs to arrive together and what booking details each traveller should bring. Do not estimate the duration from the number of people alone: different equipment requirements can make each fitting different. Keep questions about suitability, sizing and use with the rental staff. Dispatch needs the road itinerary and the load that will remain after the appointment.

Choose between a stop and two journeys

If you want the driver to remain while the fitting takes place, request that arrangement explicitly and agree its price and limits. Otherwise, arrange a separate collection once there is a sensible readiness plan. An ordinary point-to-point booking should not be assumed to include an open-ended fitting stop. Compare the options using the group’s actual needs, especially if some people will collect skis while others are purchasing or exchanging additional equipment.

Update the load after equipment is chosen

A morning vehicle carrying only people and daypacks may not be suitable once skis, poles, helmets and boot bags have been added. Tell dispatch what the party expects to collect, including quantities and approximate lengths. If the final equipment differs substantially, request a capacity review before the next car is confirmed. A passenger category is not a promise that every possible combination of hired equipment will fit beside those passengers.

Keep the onward destination specific

After the fitting, the party may go to a valley station, an activity meeting or back to collect other belongings. State the actual next road destination instead of writing skiing in Davos. If a lesson has a fixed start, discuss the approach with the lesson provider and allow for all the intervening tasks. A transport booking cannot make an uncertain fitting duration compatible with an activity appointment that has no flexibility.

Prepare the later return at the same time

Record where the equipment must eventually be returned and whether that affects the final ride of the holiday. Keep receipts and rental identification together without leaving unnecessary personal documents in the vehicle. Before each departure, check that the correct equipment has been assigned to each traveller. Clear labels and a simple list reduce the chance that one person’s skis or boots remain at the counter while the rest of the group moves on.

Questions about this journey

Can the driver wait during a fitting?

Request waiting explicitly and agree the price and limits before confirmation.

Is the same vehicle suitable before and after rental collection?

Not necessarily. The added equipment must be included in a fresh capacity check.

Who should answer questions about ski sizing?

The rental provider; dispatch coordinates the road journey and equipment carriage.
